Today is World Orangutan Day - Help Them Out!
That is, he used to know all of the sights, sounds and smells — until the sight of humans, the sound of chainsaws, and the smell of smoke penetrated his rainforest paradise. Until now, Berharap’s orangutan stronghold had yet to experience the horrors of Conflict Palm Oil production, the disastrous agricultural product that has destroyed the homes and lives of so many other orangutans.
A recent Rainforest Action Network field investigation located rainforest destruction in and on the edge of an orangutan stronghold in the Tripa peatland by PT. Dua Perkasa Lestari, a Conflict Palm Oil producer who supplies some of the world’s most well-known brands. This destruction is razing the very trees and vital corridors whose branches orangutans like Berharap rely on as a lifeline.
There is hope: through donations to our network, we’ve acted swiftly to confront this destruction and expose the corporations driving it through their supply chain. But shining an international spotlight on this devastation is only the first step — we need your help to ensure it never starts up again, and that these destructive companies stop exploiting the Tripa peatland.
